Lamisil

Lamisil is a toenail fungus medication used to treat certain infections and bacteria on the feet. However, because it shares a very similar name with an epilepsy and bipolar medication, Lamictal, it has been reported that dispensing errors have occurred where these medications were switched. Individuals who expected to be treated for their fungus ended up taking the epilepsy medication, and serious side effects can occur. One of those side effects is a very serious rash similar to Steven-Johnson's syndrome, requiring hospitalization. In at least one case, the rash was fatal. Anyone who has been given the wrong medication may be the victim of medical malpractice and should speak to a legal expert right away. They may have the right to seek compensation for their medical bills, pain and suffering, and more.

Fast Facts

  • Doctors as well as pharmicists could be responsible for the mix up.
  • Lamisil is given in a cream, pill or topical spray - but the pill is most easily confused with Lamictal.
