Medical Malpractice Legislation

Part of the reason for the rise in medical malpractice insurance rates could have to do with insurance companies countering a poor economy by raising their premiums. Experts contend that any solution to the current medical malpractice insurance crisis should include, but not be limited to, tort reform. They also say that insurance reforms with patient safety initiatives and reporting requirements should be part of any attempts to fix the medical malpractice insurance crisis. Medical malpractice legislation in some states attempt to curb or cap the damage awards that a given victim may recover for certain losses, however, even this hurts victims and their loved ones, while failing to significantly reduce the costs of carrying insurance for otherwise competent doctors.
