PPA

PPA stands for phenylpropanolamine and was a drug used in many over the counter sinus and diet supplements. Used both as a decongestent and as a weight loss aid, PPA was exposed to millions and millions of individuals until 2000, when it was recalled. It was found that PPA was linked to a greater risk of hemorrhagic stroke. This is a condition in which an artery in the brain ruptures. The blood that occurs during the rupture places pressure on the brain, causing brain damage. Individuals who have taken products containing phenylpropanolamine and who have experienced complications should consider contacting an attorney to determine whether they have a case or not. An attorney can determine whether the case is legitimate and whether there is a shot at seeking compensation.

Fast Facts

  • At this point, hemorrhagic stroke from PPA has only been seen in women, although that doesn't mean it's not possible in men.
  • Yale University School of Medicine lined PPA to the increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke.
