Doctor Arrest Over Hospital Death

BBC, Jul 03, 2008

The police inquiry follows the death of one patient at the hospital, Dr Bennett told the BBC on Wednesday. As part of the probe police are looking at other deaths at the hospital. A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said officers had "interviewed a member of staff from the trust".

A senior doctor arrested as part of a police investigation into deaths at an East Yorkshire hospital said he has nothing to hide.

Sean Bennett, a consultant anaesthetist at Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham confirmed he had been spoken to by detectives and suspended from work.

"The individual concerned has not been at work since the investigation began." The police spokeswoman said: "A file will be submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service for consideration this week. "Inquiries have been made into a number of deaths at the hospital as is standard procedure to ensure a full and frank investigation is conducted."
