It will be quite bad to be admitted to hospital and then develop an infection.  This scenario can even be complicated by the infection being left untreated in a case of medical negligence.  An untreated infection of MRSA is quite unpleasant, and you might be wondering what danger this might have on your present and future health.

Late Diagnosis

There are various reasons you may have developed a Staph. aureus infection and have it remain untreated. Firstly, your doctor and nurse may not have been able to see that you were infected with MRSA until it was too late.  Hospitals and other medical facilities are quite busy places and the level of patient care might not be at a high standard during these busy times.

If you were admitted to the hospital for another illness, one that was not life threatening, the staff might have assumed it was not possible for you to develop an MRSA infection. This would have left you untreated for an MRSA infection. However this is a serious condition, as this type of infection can be life threatening.  In this regard, you could have had an untreated MRSA infection that went undiagnosed for quite awhile.

Waiting For Test Results

Secondly, you could have an untreated MRSA infection if your doctor was not sure about the diagnosis and the best course of action for you.  These strains of the MRSA can be quite difficult to treat, and will depend on the antibiotics that a hospital has available or how well the treatment is will depend on the person’s immune system.

Your doctor may have been waiting on tests to confirm your diagnosis or was inexperienced with handling these types of infections. By then the Staph. aureus bacteria may become resistant and resident to the current treatment as well. If your doctor was inexperienced with this type of infection, he or she would not be knowledgeable that the little bumps of this infection could one day turn into major boils of a MRSA skin infection. This failure to treat can lead to complications in some patients if his or her immune system is compromised, as untreated MRSA infections may be fatal.

Hospital Hid Infection From Public

Thirdly, your MRSA infection that was contracted in hospital may be a case of medical negligence if the hospital chose to hide or decrease the severity of the problem. The hospital might have believed that the infection would just disappear over time without too many people knowing. However, this bacteria can be easily spread in an environment such as a medical facility.  This can lead to an increase in infections before some hospitals are able to realize the problem is out of control, and that something must be done.
