Jury awards $365,000 to a couple in a Port Charlotte medical malpractice case

Staff Writer, Jun 06, 2008

A jury in Charlotte County has awarded Lisa and Joseph Ferrentino $364,928.10 in medical malpractice damages against St. Joseph Hospital.

The couple claimed St. Joseph Hospital was responsible for the wrongful death of their son who was born with deformities on his extremities, face, heart, and brain, the Farr Law Firm said. The couple’s son was on a respirator and died three days later. During her twenty-second week of pregnancy, Lisa Ferrentino had an ultrasound and St. Joseph Hospital interpreted the results as normal.

The couple’s case argued that the ultrasound was below standard and incomplete.
